“On Jan. 29, I came in for my yearly mammogram which has been normal for the past 15 years or so. This time Dr. Steve Scallon found something. Ultrasound, biopsy, results, all within 5 days. Three days later I met Dr. Harrington and 10 days after that, she surgically removed the mass via Lumpectomy, grade 1a.
These two doctors deserve special recognition for the pros they are. Dr. Scallon called me long after his work week had ended on a Friday night with the report. He has a manner that helped me react in a positive way. For pete’s sake, he was telling me it was malignant but instead of overreacting; with his guidance, I was able to be okay with it.”

“I had an MRI at your facility this morning and wanted to provide feedback. I am a neuro-oncology patient and have been undergoing regular/routine MRIs for seven years now. I have had them at many facilities (scheduled appointments and emergency room visits), so I know the routine…I chose your facility for this scan and will continue to come back for all future scans. I was greeted warmly when I arrived by Lisa, who, after my scan, saw me return to the waiting room and look a little panicked when I didn’t see my husband, and calmly said, “He’s here, I think he’s in the bathroom.” Shirley helped me change and took me to get my IV and was warm and friendly as well. Shannon, the technologist was incredible!!! I am a very hard start for an IV line and she had it the first try (which never happens). She was so incredibly kind and calm, which is what every patient (even when they know the routine) needs and greatly appreciates! She explained everything and made sure I was comfortable and had a blanket. She checked in with me during the scan and told me several times how well I was doing. When she pulled me out to insert the contrast into my IV line, I said, “I know you can’t tell me anything but is the scan going ok?” (even us MRI/oncology pros cannot resist asking in a moment of pure weakness and fear!). She was so gracious and patient with her response (I know that must be hard to be asked that question by patients). She had her hand on my leg when she would put me back in the tube (such a small gesture that feels like the most support in that moment). I am a medical provider myself and just wanted to thank your team (I love that they gave me a card with their names and a bottle of water on the way out!) Small gestures that make a difference.”

“I was in your office with my mom yesterday. She was there for a CT scan on her broken shoulder due to a fall at home. She only had use of one arm since the other was in a sling. Also, her knee was pretty sore and swollen from her fall which made her a little unsteady on her feet. Being a VMC employee, I’m aware of the visitor policy. I wanted to be there to assist her in walking in and out of the building, but I didn’t know if I’d be allowed to go back with her to her apt…which worried me a little because I didn’t know if she’d have to remove her clothes, or if someone would be there to help her with that.
I’m happy to report that EVERY staff member that we encountered yesterday at your clinic was exceptional in customer service, professionalism and patient care!
We were warmly greeted as we walked in. After the gentleman confirmed my mom’s name and DOB, he addressed her by name. I felt relieved that I wasn’t slapped with COVID visitor policy as we came in. The front desk kindly and patiently allowed me to assist my mom with her paperwork. Once we were done, I asked if I needed to wait outside, but they assured me that it was fine for me to say with her for now since she wasn’t 100% stead on her feet. I was relieved and very impressed that the staff ‘observed’ my mom’s struggle rather than me having to explain it to them. The woman who called my mom’s name in the lobby was kind….rather than standing and waiting for us to walk to her, she approached us. She assured me that my mom wouldn’t need to undress and that the scan would be very quick. The way she naturally came to my mom’s side, ready to assist her, made me feel confident that she would take great care with her. The two of them went back, and I waited outside.Although these things are all pretty minor, they made a big difference in our experience. That’s why I wanted to pass along this good feedback.
